Ordinary Members

Ordinary Membership of the R.A.N. Ski Club is restricted to present and past members of the Permanent Naval Force or the Naval Reserve. Only Ordinary Members may vote and hold elective office.  

Associate and Temporary Membership

There is provision in the Club's constitution for certain other persons not eligible for Ordinary Membership to be elected to Associate or Temporary Membership.  Associate Membership is open to any person, civilian or military who has rendered special service to the Club or who, in the opinion of the directors, would be in a position to render service to the Club but is not eligible for Ordinary Membership. 

Widows/widowers, former spouses and children (having attained the age of 21 as at 1 January) of  Honorary Life, Ordinary, and Associate Members, are also eligible to seek Associate Membership.

Applications for  membership from civilians will only be considered from prospective members who clearly meet the provision that they ‘have rendered special service to the Club or who, in the opinion of the directors, would be in a position to render service to the Club’. The manner in which this applies should be identified by the applicant in some detail and supported by the proposer. Applicants must be proposed and seconded by ordinary members.
 
To assist in the consideration of prospective  civilian members the Board has reinstated the category of Temporary Member, as allowed in the Constitution.  Civilian applicants for membership would complete a period of three years as Temporary Members, during which their continuing membership would be reviewed each year. Their participation at work parties, other work for the Club, their attitude and behaviour would all be taken into account. After three years, if considered suitable, they would then be offered Associate Membership.
 
Rather than paying the joining fee up front, Temporary Members will pay the annual subscription plus one third of the joining fee each year of their three year probation. (ie the joining fee would be spread over the three years of probation) Once Associate membership was offered and accepted they would then pay the usual annual subscription.
 
Army and RAAF members/ex-members who have been proposed and seconded by ordinary members and with proof of service will be accepted as Associate members  without the probationary three year Temporary Membership.

Family Membership

The spouses and children (under 21 years of age) of Ordinary and Associate Members may join as Family Members.  

Membership Nominations

All applications for Ordinary, Associate, Temporary and Family Membership should be proposed in writing by one Ordinary Member or Honorary Life Member and seconded by another.   Applications for Associate and Temporary Membership must be accompanied by a written reference from the proposer which details how the applicant meets the conditions of Associate Membership. 

Currently serving and past members or the PNF or RANR applying for membership need only provide proof of service (copy of Service ID card or copy of discharge certificate).  Nomination by an Ordinary Member of the Club is preferred but not essential.

Membership fees for 2009

There is a once only Joining Fee of $172. This fee is paid by the Ordinary or Associate members only and is not paid by the spouse or children joining as Family members.

The annual subscription for Ordinary and Associate member is $115 per person with a family maximum of $406 (2009 rates). For example, a family consisting of two parents and two children they will only pay $406 per year and not $460. Larger families save even more.

The annual subscription for Temporary members is $172 for the member and $115 for family members with a family maximum of $465.
