Call for Volunteer Lodge Managers  

Volunteers are invited from Ordinary or Associate members to manage the three Club lodges at Mt Buller in Victoria and at Perisher Valley and Thredbo Village in NSW. The Mt Buller and Perisher Valley lodges only need managers for the ski season (long weekend in June until beginning of October). The Thredbo Village lodge needs a manager all year round.  

If you wish to nominate for volunteer lodge manager for a specific period please fill out the attached form. Preference will be given to people who are available for a minimum period of one month who are and deemed suitable by VP ACT/ VP VIC. As a second order those who have completed summer lodge manager duties would be given preference for vacancies in the winter lodge manager roster.  

Volunteer Managers will need to become familiar with the particular lodge prior to taking up duties. This can be achieved by attending a work party at the lodge you wish to volunteer for and receive a full brief by the Lodge Maintenance Manager.  

While the nomination forms will be accepted at any time, an annual call for volunteer lodge managers will be included in the November Newsletter for the following June to June (12 month period). Applications will close on 31 Dec each year. The roster will then be drawn up and all nominees will be advised of the roster by the end of February, with the intent being to afford members with confirmation of the selection 6 to 12 months in advance.  

The volunteer manager's responsibilities are:  

Buller, Thredbo and Perisher  

  • Open and close the lodge
  • Ensure the office is operated efficiently and end of term reports are made
  • Control cabin allocation and casual accommodation take up and ensure records are kept
  • Accept and record payments from members
  • Deal with Mt Buller Resort Commission,  Kosciuszko Thredbo and/or NPWS personnel as appropriate
  • Be available for members and guests between 0730-0930 & 1530-1900
  • Ensure guests briefed on safety and lodge facilities
  • Ensure electrical power, gas, light and water consumption is keep to a reasonable level
  • Allocate lodge communal cleaning tasks and ensure they are carried out
  • Ensure smooth operation of the Laundry and Drying Room
  • Ensure defects are attended too
  • Ensure correct usage and storage of chemicals
  • Ensure the Australian White Ensign is flown appropriately
  • Ensure that control is maintained over club owned or supplied tools
  • Ensure that persons using club equipment and or tools do so safely
  • Control member and guest access to the lodge car park
  • Ensure lodge Heating and Hot water services operate correctly
  • Regularly remove garbage and waste from kitchen to the storage area
  • Thoroughly clean a fridge and a stove each week
  • Thoroughly clean microwaves and toasters each week
  • Thoroughly clean all toilets and showers once a week [change-over day]
  • Refill all reusable (Milestone) chemical containers
  • Ensure the supply of consumables is sufficient
  • Clean the main water supply filter once a month [Thredbo only]
  • Clean the grease trap once a month [Perisher only]
  • Take appropriate action in an emergency to ensure safety of our members and guests, and restore services within the lodge 

Note:  Cleaning tasks done by the manager are not intended to replace members communal daily chores.

A detailed statement of the  manager's Duties and Responsibilities for each lodge is available on request. Successful volunteers will upon confirmation receive a copy of the Duties and Responsibilities statement appropriate to the lodge they will be managing. The above list is an abstract of the Duties and Responsibilities statement.  

It should be noted that as a lodge manager you should also possess some basic handyman skills, as you may be required to: change light bulbs, fluros and starters; replace a tap washer; fix a toilet flushing unit; service a sticking door or hinge; re-stick loose wall tiles; or clean fan filters.  

The Mt Buller Lodge Manager will be provided with free accommodation and reimbursed petrol costs for travel to and from the lodge (up to $60 each way) once per month and a small allowance to cover the additional cost of food ($6 per day). The manager’s flat has a double bed and the manager may take his/ her spouse at no cost but is required to pay for accommodation for an additional family members or guests.  

The Perisher Lodge Manager will be provided with free accommodation and reimbursed petrol cost for travel to and from Bullocks Flat (up to $60 each way) and the return journey on the Ski Tube and the Oversnow vehicle to and from the lodge once per month. As the manager's cabin only has a single bed, only the manager will be provided with free accommodation - other family members and any guest must pay the appropriate accommodation charge.  

The Thredbo Lodge Manager will be provided with free accommodation, will be reimbursed the National Park entry fee (annual pass) and petrol costs for travel to and from the lodge (up to $60 each way) once per month and will be given a small allowance to cover the additional cost of food ($6 per day). The managers flat has a double bed and two bunk beds and the manager may take his/her spouse at no cost. Any additional family members and any guests must pay the appropriate accommodation charge. The Booking Officer must be advised before any family members or guests are invited to the lodge to ensure over occupancy does not occur.
